Welcome! I’m Dan Harville, and this is God’s Guiding Light, the podcast where we hear the conversion stories of people who find the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. I believe you’re going to enjoy this episode, so let’s get started.
Hello, Karol! I’m glad to meet you and have you on the show.
Thank you so much! It’s nice to meet you too.
I’d love to hear about your life. Can you bring me up to speed on who you are?
Sure! I’m a mother of five and recently separated. I’ve been in the church since Christmas Day in 1999, and I have a twin sister who’s also a member. We got baptized together, which was a special experience.
That’s amazing! What was your life like before you found the gospel?
It was very different. I was 17 when I found the gospel. I used to smoke, drink, and party a lot. But discovering the church changed my path completely. I stopped drinking, stopped smoking, and stayed dedicated because I love the church and the feeling of the Spirit.
How did you find the gospel?
There was a commercial in September of ’99 for a free “God” video. I called to request it, and the missionary on the other end sensed that I was going through a rough time because my parents were in the middle of a divorce. He felt the Spirit strongly and expressed that I really needed this. I thought, “Why not?” and invited the missionaries over. My twin sister was fascinated and decided to get baptized, but at first, I was hesitant and thought I’d stick to my old habits.
What changed your mind?
During Lesson Four, they talked about the concept of prison and paradise, and I felt a strong impression that I needed to get baptized. I asked the missionaries if it was still possible, and they were thrilled—apparently, they had fasted for my decision. So, on Christmas Day 1999, my twin sister and I were baptized.
That’s so special! How has your life changed since making that commitment?
It’s been quite different. I’ve remained active in the church since then. I’ve seen friends from high school struggle with addiction and other hardships, while I feel the teachings of the gospel have helped create a smoother path for me. The Spirit has been a guide, and I believe Heavenly Father lifts our burdens when we try to live our best.
Do you see the influence of the gospel on your children?
Absolutely! My 16-year-old daughter spoke at church recently and has a strong testimony of the church. While each child needs to develop their own faith, I can see how the gospel has positively impacted them.
You have a beautiful family! What are your plans for the future?
I’m committed to staying in the gospel; there’s no way I’d turn away from it. My plan is just to keep moving forward as best as I can. We’re all imperfect people trying to live our best lives.
I agree that the phrase “endure to the end” takes on new meaning every day, especially through life’s ups and downs.
Definitely! And with everything going on, I’m sure you’ve got your hands full. Did your daughter pass her driving test?
She did! It’s a bittersweet moment.
Thank you so much for sharing your story. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
I think we covered everything.
It was a pleasure spending time with you. Thank you for sharing your conversion story!
Thank you so much! Have a great day!
You too! Bye!
